Babywearing
What is Baby Wearing?
Babywearing is the practice of wearing or carrying a baby or child in a sling or other form of carrier. Babywearing has been practiced for centuries around the world.
Studies of parent-child attachment, parental satisfaction and infant crying all point to babywearing as an ideal solution for most parents to provide an optimum environment for attachment between parent and child.
Some benefits of babywearing include:
Mother's Oxytocin is increased through physical contact, leading to a more intimate maternal bond, easier breastfeeding and better care, in turn lowering the incidence of postpartum depression.
Babies are calmer since their primal/survival needs are met. The parent can be seen, heard, smelled, touched, tasted, provide feeding, etc.
Infants are "humanized" earlier by developing socially. Babies are closer to people and can study facial expressions, language and body language.
