Childbirth Services
Labor and Delivery Options - Enjoy the privacy of a single-bed room where you and your coach will be assisted in labor by experienced maternity nurses. You may have visitors, including children, in the labor room if you wish (limited to two visitors at a time). And, if you want to combine labor, delivery and recovery in the same room, they have a room available to meet your needs.
24-Hour Anesthesia Availability - A unique feature for mothers in need of epidural pain relief during childbirth is the 24-hour availability of an anesthesiologist specially trained in and devoted solely to labor and delivery.
Cesarean Birth - Should you need a Cesarean section to deliver your baby, you can take comfort in knowing that the labor and delivery department is fully staffed and equipped to provide this surgery safely within the department. Just as during a vaginal birth, your coach may be with you, if you have your doctor's approval. And, if possible, you will be able to hold and cuddle your baby after birth.
Intensive Care Neonatal Nursery - Some babies are born prematurely or with special medical needs. Torrance Memorial offers the benefit of an intensive care unit for newborns so you can feel confident that specialized care is available should it be needed. This includes highly skilled physicians, called neonatologists, who staff the intensive care neonatal nursery around the clock, and are on hand to be present during the delivery of your baby, should they be needed. The newborn intensive care nurses and other health care professionals are also specially trained in the care of sick or premature infants. This is important to know, as not all hospitals have intensive care neonatal nurseries, and it maybe a factor you want to consider when choosing a hospital.
